After humans, Bryan Johnson now wants dogs to live forever because they're ‘amazing’

Bryan Johnson, a tech entrepreneur known for his quest to slow ageing, has now turned his attention to dogs, proclaiming them "amazing". After adopting a Belgian Malinois named Katara, Johnson revealed that she serves as his guard dog, protecting him from potential threats. The two have bonded over the past month, often traveling together.

At a longevity event in San Francisco, Katara's presence was a highlight, with Johnson stating that she would become the "most measured dog in the world" through rigorous data collection and longevity interventions.

Johnson, who has spent millions on ageing research, believes that improving a dog's health could be as simple as adjusting their diet, as many commercial dog foods contain harmful compounds. He also sees potential for canine health advancements to benefit humans, given the many similarities between the two species. Johnson has previously complained about the lengthy regulatory process for human medical treatments, which is much shorter for veterinary medicine.

This has led to faster drug approval for canine research, enabling significant scientific progress in a shorter period.

While Johnson has no immediate plans to launch a dog-focused health company, he is confident that pet owners will be more inclined to invest in advanced care for their dogs compared to themselves. He attributes this to the fact that people often prioritize their pets' well-being over their own. Notably, startups like Loyal and Rejuvenate Bio are already exploring FDA-approved lifespan-extension drugs and gene-therapy approaches to combat age-related diseases in dogs.
