70-year-old man arrested for allegedly defiling minor in Bauchi

In Bauchi, a 70-year-old man has been apprehended for the alleged sexual abuse of an eight-year-old girl in the Tsakanin Bayara area. The suspect, Usman Abubakar, was taken into custody after a complaint was filed at the 'E' Division, Yelwa, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, by the victim's father, a 48-year-old individual. The arrest occurred just days after another man, Balarabe Adamu, was detained for allegedly sexually assaulting his eight-month-old stepdaughter in the Lame community of Toro Local Government Area.

According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the father reported that on Sunday, August 24, around 11:00 a.m., Abubakar lured his daughter to an unfinished building in the area, where he allegedly sexually abused her. Upon receiving the complaint, police officers promptly arrested the suspect. During questioning, Abubakar reportedly admitted to the charges.

The victim was then taken to the Police Clinic for medical evaluation and necessary care. The case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed condemnation of the alleged act and assured the public that the investigation would be conducted diligently, with the suspect being charged to court in accordance with the law.

The police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance towards sexual violence and child abuse, urging parents, guardians, and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
