3 brothers killed, relative injured in IED blast in Balochistan's Duki: police

On Sunday, an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) claimed the lives of three brothers and injured a relative in the Duki district of Balochistan, according to police. The incident occurred as a pick-up truck was crossing a seasonal stream near the Killi Bakhtair Khan area of Luni tehsil, said Duki Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mansoor Ahmed Buzdar.

The three brothers were killed instantly, while their relative sustained injuries due to the blast. The remote-controlled IED was planted by unidentified miscreants, police claimed. Following the explosion, police and security personnel rushed to the scene, recovering the bodies and taking the injured to the district headquarters hospital.

The truck was destroyed in the attack. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Balochistan has been plagued by frequent terrorist activity and lawlessness. On August 27, four terrorists from the group Fitna-al-Hindustan were killed in the Sasool area of Balochistan's Khuzdar district. Prior to that, on August 22, a security official was killed and six others injured in a roadside bomb explosion in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung district.

The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported a significant deterioration in the security situation in Balochistan, with the death toll rising by 241 percent in the province last month. Security personnel deaths increased from six in June to 62 in July, marking a 933 percent surge. Terrorist deaths rose from 75 to 238, and civilian deaths jumped by 93 percent, from 28 to 54. Additionally, 18 members of peace committees were killed in the province.
