However, the question remains: will Google Maps follow Trump's directive? The White House's message, indicating the U.S. Geological Survey’s official designation of the lake as "Lake America," suggests that the government body is moving forward with the name change. Google Maps had previously adopted a similar change for the Gulf of Mexico, displaying "Gulf of America" for users in the U.S. once the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) was updated.
