VIDEO: I’ll attend your 70th birthday, Obasanjo jokes about missing Olota’s 80th celebration

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo brought merriment and cordiality to the 60th birthday celebration of Oba Professor Abdulkabir Obalanlege at Ota, Ogun State. The 89-year-old former head of state, known for his humor, touched upon the monarch's future birthdays in a lighthearted speech. Addressing the monarch in Yoruba, Obasanjo recalled his early-morning call to pray for Obalanlege.

With a chuckle, he jokingly pledged to miss Obasanjo's 80th birthday celebration. "Kabiyesi, I called you this morning and prayed for you," Obasanjo said. He drew laughter from the audience when he projected his age at the future milestone birthdays. "I’m here celebrating your 60th birthday. I’ll join you for your 70th birthday in 10 years, but for your 80th birthday, which is 20 years from now, ẹ yonda mi (you’ll excuse me); you’ll celebrate that one the way it pleases you," Obasanjo declared, drawing laughter from dignitaries and guests.

Oyo APC senatorial aspirant, Bola Shettima, opted for a low-key 60th birthday celebration. At the event, Fuji legend King Wasiu Ayinde, popularly called K1 De Ultimate, prostrated deeply to Obasanjo, showcasing traditional Yoruba respect and cultural display.
