US urges Hezbollah to disarm, calls it key to Lebanon’s security

The US State Department has urged Hezbollah to disarm, emphasizing that it is a crucial step towards Lebanon's security and stability. The department reiterated that only the Lebanese government possesses the authority to discuss and determine the country's future, highlighting the significance of the "tripartite framework" agreement involving the United States, Lebanon, and Israel.

Washington has expressed its unwavering support for the Lebanese people and its aspiration for Lebanon to be a "safe and sovereign country," stressing that achieving this goal necessitates Hezbollah's disarmament and the cessation of weapons outside the state's framework.

The State Department urged Hezbollah to surrender its weapons, stating that when the group is prepared to do so, it can reach out to the Lebanese government and inform it of its readiness to disarm. This move, according to Washington, would contribute to resolving differences and fostering a more harmonious environment. The department also noted that Hezbollah currently refuses to engage with the Lebanese government, the United States, or Israel, attributing this stance to Hezbollah's allegiance to Iran.
