US Airline Seeks Approval in Colombia to Operate on Several Routes Across the Country

U.S. low-cost airline Frontier Airlines has submitted a request to Colombia's aeronautical authority, Aerocivil, seeking approval to operate 28 weekly flights from Orlando, Florida, to several cities across Colombia. The company, headquartered in Denver, Colorado, is requesting traffic rights up to the fourth freedom of the air, allowing it to transport passengers, mail, and cargo between the United States and Colombia, and return to the United States.

Frontier has proposed four routes between Orlando and Colombian cities: Orlando-Bogota-Orlando, Orlando-Medellin-Orlando, Orlando-Cartagena-Orlando, and Orlando-Cali-Orlando. Each route would have seven weekly frequencies, with the corresponding return routes to be determined based on official approval.

The airline plans to use Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft for the proposed services. Frontier has a fleet of 176 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, and operates over 8,000 employees. The company transported 33 million passengers in 2025 and generated revenues of $3.7 billion, operating more than 440 nonstop routes at more than 100 airports in the region.

Frontier's request highlights the company's commitment to safety and training, having received the 2025 Diamond Award for Excellence from the Federal Aviation Administration for its safety and training programs. The airline also emphasizes its focus on offering competitive prices, a modern and fuel-efficient fleet, and a wide range of services to enhance customer experience, such as Starlink Wi-Fi, First Class seats, and benefits for frequent travelers.
