Troops foil terrorist attacks, rescue 16 abductees in Zamfara

Nigerian Army troops thwarted separate terrorist assaults in Zamfara State and liberated 16 civilians who were at risk of abduction, local reports indicate. On Friday morning, August 28, 2026, soldiers deployed in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area responded to an urgent call of an invasion by suspected terrorists seeking to capture residents of a community.

The troops quickly moved to the location and engaged the aggressors with superior firepower, causing them to scatter in disarray. "Four male civilians were rescued unharmed, while the affected area was subsequently reinforced and secured by the troops," a source reported.

Later that same day, troops based in Tsafe LGA intercepted another terrorist attempt to abduct commuters en route on a major transit corridor. Upon arrival, the troops clashed with the assailants in a relentless firefight, successfully compelling them to relinquish their hostages and retreat. A total of 12 passengers traveling in two commercial vehicles were rescued without any injuries.

Following the successful intervention, traffic resumed its normal flow along the route, while security measures were reinforced in the area to deter further attacks.
