Three college students killed, four injured as car overturns near Madurantakam

Three college students lost their lives and four others suffered serious injuries when their car overturned near Madurantakam in Chengalpattu district on the night of August 28, 2026. The victims were students at Vels College in Chennai, en route to Puducherry with friends, when the accident took place. According to police reports, the incident occurred on the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway near Madurantakam.

One of the car's rear tires exploded, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle swerved across the road and subsequently overturned. All seven individuals in the car sustained severe injuries. Upon learning of the accident, police and Fire and Rescue Services quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured students to local hospitals in Chengalpattu and Madurantakam for treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Deepak Raj, 19 from Vadalur in Cuddalore district, Puyuterin Staniko, 22 from Vilavancode in Kanyakumari district, and Raj Prasad, 19 from Pasupathipalayam in Karur district. The accident led to significant traffic congestion on the highway, prompting police to deploy personnel to manage traffic flow and clear the affected area.

A case has been registered by the Madurantakam police, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is underway.
