Thane Gears Up For 32nd Mayor’s Varsha Marathon With 30,000 Runners; Major Traffic Diversions And Safety Measures In Place

Thane is finalizing preparations for its 32nd Mayor's Varsha Marathon, set for Sunday, August 30. The race is expected to draw over 30,000 participants, according to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Saurabh Rao. The city government and police forces have joined forces to manage traffic, monsoon conditions, and runner safety.

Civic departments are completing route maintenance work, such as fixing potholes, trimming trees, clearing encroachments, and improving street sanitation. A final inspection of the race course is planned for Saturday, August 29. Administrative checks will cover parking arrangements, barricades, water stations, medical facilities, sanitation facilities, and volunteer scheduling. Safety measures include special precautions for student participants, coordinated with local schools and bus operators.

Traffic diversions will begin in Thane from 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 29, to 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 30. Key road changes include the closure of Nitin Company Junction access to the TMC headquarters, with alternative routes via Teen Hath Naka and Hariniwas Circle. Access to the TMC headquarters will be restricted at Almeida Signal, with redirections via Vandana ST Depot and Khopat.
