TCU’s top returning receiver Jordan Dwyer misses opener because of foot issue

Dublin, Ireland (AP) — Texas Christian University's opening game of the football season featured a notable absence as top returning receiver Jordan Dwyer was sidelined due to a persistent foot problem. Dwyer, a key player for the Horned Frogs, missed Saturday's contest against North Carolina in Ireland. He had been listed as a game-time decision but eventually traveled with the team for their debut international match.

The game marked the first start for quarterback Jaden Craig, who assumed the role after three-year starter Josh Hoover transferred to Indiana. Dwyer's absence was a significant blow for TCU, as he had previously contributed notably in the previous season's opener. In last year's season opener, Dwyer registered nine receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown against North Carolina.

That performance came after he had amassed 54 catches for 730 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games for TCU the previous season. After transferring from Idaho, Dwyer had cemented his reputation as a reliable player, helping the Vandals compile 110 catches for 1,656 yards and 18 touchdowns in 31 games from 2022 to 2024.
