Suresh Gopi backtracks on Thrissur AIIMS remark again, says ‘never promised’ it during poll campaign

Union Minister Suresh Gopi has appeared to retract his earlier remarks about the potential establishment of an AIIMS in Thrissur, emphasizing that he never promised the construction of the prestigious medical institution during his election campaign. In response to inquiries about his prior statements, Gopi asserted, "I have not uttered even a single word about AIIMS in any election campaign.

The minister, however, expressed his continued support for Thrissur's desire for an AIIMS, noting that the project could materialize only if the Kerala government takes the required steps. Gopi highlighted the availability of land at Mannuthy and the Police Academy for the purpose, as well as around 400 acres of land in Mattathur panchayat, where the lease period has expired, as possible options.

He criticized the previous government for their reluctance to consider the project, urging the current administration not to repeat the same inaction.
