Islamabad - The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based inflation rose by 0.05 percent week-on-week (WoW) for the week ending August 27, 2026, primarily due to higher prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), diesel, electricity for Q1, and petrol. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), various food items also saw price increases, including pulse gram, wheat flour, eggs, mustard oil, pulse masoor, tea, pulse mash, and beef.

Conversely, tomatoes, chicken, onions, bananas, garlic, rice irri-6/9, rice basmati broken, and potatoes experienced price decreases. A total of 20 items (39.22 percent of the SPI basket) saw price hikes, while 11 items (21.56 percent) saw reductions, and 20 items (39.22 percent) remained unchanged. On a year-on-year basis, SPI increased by 9.04 percent, driven by significant price hikes in onions, LPG, wheat flour, tomatoes, diesel, petrol, and electricity.

Households with different income groups experienced varying percentage changes in SPI, with the highest income group (Rs 44,175 and above) seeing a 0.13 percent increase, while the lowest income group (up to Rs 17,732) experienced a 0.17 percent reduction.
