Shettima departs Abuja for AU summit in Angola

Vice President Kashim Shettima has traveled to Luanda, Angola, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union's Assembly of Heads of State and Government. The purpose of Shettima's trip, announced by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, is to discuss conflict resolution strategies and the promotion of lasting peace throughout the African continent.

According to Nkwocha, the summit will gather African leaders and other crucial stakeholders to explore practical solutions to regional security issues and enhance collective efforts for conflict prevention and resolution.

Nigeria, known for its significant role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution across Africa and beyond, is anticipated to contribute to discussions on fortifying continental mechanisms for conflict prevention, dispute resolution, and peace maintenance. Shettima's presence at the summit will highlight Nigeria's dedication to these endeavors.

Accompanied by senior defense and security officials, Shettima will present President Tinubu's address at the conference. The Vice President will articulate Nigeria's stance on the issues at hand, reaffirming the nation's commitment to peace and stability across the continent.

The summit will also examine methods to strengthen continental frameworks for conflict prevention, dispute resolution, and peace sustenance amidst security concerns across Africa. Shettima is scheduled to return to Nigeria upon the completion of his engagements in Angola.
