Shettima demands accountability for food security interventions

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called for greater accountability in the Federal Government's food security efforts, emphasizing that public funds must yield tangible results for farmers, markets, and Nigerian households. During the seventh meeting of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit's Steering Committee, Shettima urged stronger visibility and accountability across ongoing interventions and highlighted the importance of coordinated action among federal and state governments, the private sector, and relevant institutions.

The committee discussed measures to support farmers and domestic production, improve food distribution, and strengthen strategic reserves. They also examined transportation, logistics, levies, market access, and other distribution factors affecting food costs. PFSCU Executive Secretary Marion Moon emphasized the importance of using evidence to determine where interventions were needed, aiming to support farmers, improve food movement, and strengthen preparedness.
