Russian air attack on Ukraine's Kyiv kills at least 27, injures 42

At least 27 individuals lost their lives and 42 others sustained injuries in a Russian air assault on Kyiv, Ukraine, according to regional governor Tymur Tkachenko. In a Telegram post, Tkachenko revealed that over 380 people were being evacuated from the affected Bucha district. The attack caused significant damage, destroying at least 50 residential buildings and igniting a large fire that spread to multiple homes and a restaurant.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that a warehouse in the village of Myla was targeted, resulting in an explosion. Zelensky expressed concerns over alleged negligence, stating that ammunition should not be stored near residential areas. The president added that a care facility for the elderly and disabled, along with residential buildings, were among the structures affected by the attack.

More than 370 people have already been evacuated, with the process still ongoing. Earlier reports indicated a Russian drone strike triggered a substantial fire and explosions at a warehouse near Kyiv, located in the Bucha district. The attack on Friday led to at least six casualties and the evacuation of over 200 people, including children.

The prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation into potential negligence associated with the storage of explosive materials at the site. Officials will scrutinize the legality of the storage and whether the company holding the materials possessed the necessary permits. The incident has drawn criticism from Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky, who lamented the repetition of similar mistakes in a previous munitions depot explosion in July, emphasizing the need for accountability and punishment to prevent further occurrences.
