Rights group petitions police over alleged assault on two-year-old girl in Delta

The Delta State Police Command is currently under petition from the Ontop Cares Human Rights Organization (OCHRO) regarding alleged abuse and assault against a two-year-old girl named Blessing Obi. OCHRO's Director-General, Comrade Ajemba Stanley, signed the petition on August 27, 2026, which accused the child's biological father, Mr. Obi Lotachukwu Kennedy, of subjecting her to violent treatment.

The allegations include physical assault, child abuse, infliction of injuries, conduct capable of causing grievous bodily harm, and placing the child's life and safety in serious danger. OCHRO claims to possess supporting evidence and is ready to share it with the police for further investigation. They expressed serious concerns about the age and vulnerability of the victim, urging the police to take immediate steps to ensure her protection.

The group requested the police to question the suspect, arrange for a medical examination for the child, gather statements from witnesses, and preserve all available evidence such as photographs, videos, medical records, and digital messages. They also suggested the matter be referred to the Criminal Investigation Department or the Juvenile, Women and Children unit for specialized investigation.

OCHRO stressed that being the child's biological father does not justify violence or abuse and pledged to cooperate with the Nigeria Police Force to assist the investigation. They emphasized the urgency of the matter and the need for appropriate action in accordance with the law.
