Parents must caution teens that mule accounts can lead to legal action, says Ewon

PENAMPANG, Aug 29 — The Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah, III Datuk Ewon Benedick, has urged parents to caution their teenagers, especially those aged 13 to 19, against engaging in mule account schemes. These accounts, utilized by others, can lead to legal consequences if the activities are found to be fraudulent or unlawful. Ewon emphasized that digital technology has become an integral part of daily life, necessitating an understanding of the associated risks and threats.

During the Digital Parenting Programme Series IV for the Kapayan state constituency, Ewon, also serving as Penampang Member of Parliament, highlighted the prevalence of QR code payments and online entrepreneurship grants, underscoring that digital transactions are now commonplace. He cautioned that while the use of digital tools is beneficial, it should be balanced to prevent young people from becoming overly reliant on their smartphones and neglecting other responsibilities.

Ewon expressed optimism that the program would improve parents' understanding and assist them in guiding their children to use digital technology safely, responsibly, and wisely. He affirmed his commitment to continuing support for such initiatives, recognizing their importance and reflecting on his role as a father.
