Pakistani seafood earns a place on European shelves— a major export milestone

Pakistan's seafood industry has reached a significant milestone as their products now grace European supermarket shelves. This achievement underscores the country's growing capacity to satisfy the rigorous quality and food-safety standards of some of the world's most discerning markets. During a visit led by a prominent Chinese delegation and other distinguished guests to Sea Green Enterprises, Mr. Asim Abrar, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, underscored the significance of the achievement.

He stated that the presence of Pakistani seafood in European retail markets marks a major breakthrough for the nation's seafood sector.

Mr. Abrar expressed that this development validates Pakistan's seafood for its capacity to compete in international markets when processed, packaged, and handled in accordance with European and international standards. He highlighted Pakistan's vast potential in seafood exports and forecasted that, with appropriate infrastructure, investment, modern processing facilities, and value addition, the sector could potentially generate an export revenue of US$1–2 billion.

He also extended his gratitude to the Marine Fisheries Department, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, and all relevant government departments for their cooperation and efforts that enabled Pakistani seafood to access highly regulated international markets.

The accomplishment by Sea Green Enterprises is being viewed as a notable example of "Made in Pakistan" seafood successfully penetrating premium international retail markets. It highlights the immense untapped potential of Pakistan's fisheries and seafood industry. Mr. Abrar emphasized that this milestone should serve as a catalyst for further investment, modernization, and value addition, thereby enabling Pakistan to establish a robust and sustainable presence in seafood markets across the globe.
