Nepal floods: 88 Indians rescued, 287 still missing; India sends forensic, tunnel teams — Latest updates

Ninety-eight Indian nationals have been rescued from a hydropower project in Nepal's Rasuwa district, but 287 remain missing, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Four Indians were successfully rescued on Saturday, and their identities were confirmed by the MEA. Specialized forensic and technical teams have been dispatched to Nepal to aid in search and rescue efforts.

So far, India has sent six forensic teams and a tunnel rescue reconnaissance team to assist Nepal in identifying victims and recovering bodies trapped in hydropower tunnels. Nepal initially declined foreign rescue teams, but now welcomes expertise in specialized areas like tunnel rescues. As of the latest report, a total of 2,426 people are still unaccounted for, with 682 bodies recovered.

China's Tibet region has reported 554 people missing, and seven deaths have been confirmed. Nepal's meteorological department warns that fresh rain and thunderstorms could hinder ongoing rescue operations. Foreign nations have pledged financial assistance, including CAN$5 million from Canada and two million euros from the European Union.
