Modders Have Already Gotten NVIDIA DLSS 5 Working On RTX 40 Series GPUs
Earlier yesterday, NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 got an unofficial implementation after its DLL file was discovered in NBA 2K27, thanks to modders from the RenoDX community. Now, an RTX Remix modder by the name of Uncle Burrito has taken the implementation a step further: getting it to run on the older RTX 40 Series. Uncle Burrito […] The post Modders Have Already Gotten NVIDIA DLSS 5 Working On RTX 40 Series…
Modders from the RenoDX community discovered NVIDIA's DLSS 5 DLL file in NBA 2K27 earlier yesterday, leading to an unofficial implementation. RenoDX modder Uncle Burrito further expanded the implementation to work on the older RTX 40 Series GPUs. Uncle Burrito identified Blackwell-only CUDA binaries in the code that were incompatible with Ada Lovelace and replaced them with binaries compatible with the RTX 40 Series.
This allowed DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to be applicable with the RTX 40 Series GPUs, as confirmed by Uncle Burrito's demonstration on an RTX 4090, with successful testing on an RTX 4080 as well. However, performance suffers significantly when Neural Rendering engine is active; for instance, a Control test shows average frames dropping from 135 fps to 82 fps at 4K resolution.
NVIDIA planned to keep DLSS 5 exclusive to Blackwell GPUs, and it is currently only available in NBA 2K27. DLSS 5 is expected to be released to the masses later this year, alongside NBA 2K27's release on September 4th.
