Man sentenced to over 10 years in prison in Moss Park mass shooting

A Brampton man, Nathan Bell, has been sentenced to 10 years and nine months in prison for discharging a firearm during a mass shooting in Moss Park. Bell was found guilty of this offence while violating three separate weapons prohibition orders. The shooting occurred on September 16, 2023, in Toronto, when Bell, along with his friend Richard Baker and Baker's brother, entered a group of people gathered at a bus stop following a social event.

A verbal altercation ensued, and gunfire erupted, resulting in the deaths of one individual and injuries to four others. Bell claimed he acted in self-defense, but the jury rejected this claim. The judge emphasized the need to deter gun violence, particularly in the case of Bell, who has a long criminal history. Bell's sentence will end with roughly six years and five months remaining, and he is now subject to a lifetime weapons prohibition order.
