Mamata Banerjee Booked For Alleged HC Order Violation At TMCP Event In Kolkata; FIR Filed

Kolkata Police have filed a suo motu FIR against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress (TMC) organisers for allegedly violating conditions imposed by the Calcutta High Court for a foundation day program of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). The FIR was registered at Hastings Police Station following the event held on Cathedral Road in Kolkata on August 28.

The Calcutta High Court had permitted the TMCP event while directing organisers to keep one road flank open to maintain traffic flow and public movement. Police allege that the road flank was not kept open, leading to traffic blockage and disruption. Additionally, the event allegedly extended beyond the time limit permitted by the court.

Supporters reportedly pushed aside barricades around the event area, resulting in confrontations between supporters and police. The FIR names Banerjee along with TMCP organizers, with police stating the specific roles of the named individuals will be determined during the investigation. The case has been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to criminal conspiracy, disobedience of orders by a public servant, obstruction, and other offences involving public servants.

Mamata Banerjee addressed the TMCP gathering during the event and criticized the current police and administration. The investigation is ongoing, with Kolkata Police examining whether the event organizers and others involved violated the High Court's conditions and determining the roles played by those named in the FIR.
