Kota Belud car wash crash sparks deja vu weeks after Kota Kinabalu International Airport smash

Kota Belud, August 29 - Similar to a previous incident at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, a 61-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a Perodua Alza and car wash on Jalan Raya on Thursday. The accident happened at 9:30 am after the woman had finished using the automatic car wash. Police Chief Supt Khairul Shah Peri stated that the driver lost control of her Perodua Ativa following her exit from the automatic car wash machine.

The Ativa veered off, crashing into the parked Alza and then colliding with the iron structure of the automatic car wash, damaging the structure and the two vehicles. However, the woman was not injured in the incident. The case is being investigated under Regulation 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959. Earlier this month, a similar situation unfolded at KKIA, where a 66-year-old woman suffered minor injuries when her SUV crashed into the Level 3 departure hall area.

The accident was believed to have occurred due to the woman forgetting to engage the "P" gear, causing the vehicle to move slowly. Panicking, she stepped on the accelerator, resulting in the vehicle surging forward and crashing into the building. The driver managed to exit the vehicle before the collision but sustained minor facial injuries from flying glass shards.

Police emphasized the importance of caution while driving, ensuring vehicles are in good condition, and adherence to all traffic laws and regulations to prevent accidents.
