Kopmedia ranks among KL's top 50 cooperatives

Kopmedia, a leading co-operative in Kuala Lumpur, has been ranked 46th among the top 50 most successful cooperatives in the Federal Territory according to the 2026 Majlis Apresiasi Gerakan Koperasi Wilayah Persekutuan (MAGK 26) awards. The prestigious recognition was bestowed upon Kopmedia by the Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM) Federal Territory branch during an appreciation ceremony held on August 27.

The awards ceremony celebrated a total of 55 cooperatives, including the 50 best-performing entities, two premier cooperatives, and three special award recipients. The evaluations took into account various factors such as compliance with laws, governance, member contributions, revenue, asset ownership, and fund accumulation. Additionally, the cooperatives were assessed on their financial management practices and adherence to good governance.

Magh (R) Datuk Ahmad Norihan Jalal, the Chairman of SKM, emphasized the significant role played by the cooperative movement in the Federal Territory, noting that 35 out of the country's 100 best cooperatives are located in the area. Five of the seven premier cooperatives were also based in the Federal Territory, and 80 out of the 1,200 cooperatives in the territory reported annual revenues exceeding RM5 million, classifying them as large-cluster cooperatives.

This recognition comes at a time when the cooperative sector in the Federal Territory has witnessed growth across several key indicators in 2025. The number of cooperatives rose to 1,223 from 1,214 the previous year, while membership increased by 5.69 percent to 2.51 million. Additionally, total assets grew by 9.82 percent to RM24.65 billion, and total revenue climbed by 4.92 percent to RM7.46 billion throughout the year.
