The role was previously held by Hall of Famer Grant Hill, who has been the managing director of the USA Men’s National Team since 2021.

Durant's love for basketball has led him to continue his involvement with the sport even after retirement. He is eager to oversee USA Basketball and believes that his experience and love for the game will allow him to make a significant impact as the General Manager. Durant is also interested in the possibility of competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, although he is determined to achieve success through merit rather than seniority.
