Info ministry rejects ‘misleading’ foreign media reports on ‘convicted prisoner’

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MOIB) in Pakistan has rejected "misleading stories" published by foreign media outlets concerning a convicted individual held in the country. This comes after CNN anchor Becky Anderson interviewed Zulfi Bukhari, a former aide to PTI founder Imran Khan, on television. According to the MOIB, Imran Khan is not an individual detained under executive order and was incarcerated following multiple convictions following court proceedings.

The statement underlined that Khan remains eligible to pursue all legal remedies available under Pakistani law. The information ministry disputed allegations that Imran was subjected to "punitive solitary confinement, cruelty, or deprivation," asserting that he enjoys amenities such as visits, phone calls, reading materials, and meals.

The ministry also denied claims that Khan was barred from meeting his family and political associates, stating that visits were permitted and Khan holds weekly meetings with his wife, Bushra Bibi, who is also detained at Adiala Jail. Records show approximately 198 interview sessions with more than 900 visitors, including family members, lawyers, doctors, and political representatives.

The ministry also dismissed allegations that Khan did not receive adequate medical care, citing that he underwent approximately 30 medical examinations by specialist teams, including treatment for a retinal condition.
