In attempt to murder case: Cops demand Rs 25L bribe for not invoking PCPNDT Act

The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has charged two policemen and two private agents in an attempt to murder case, reportedly demanding a Rs 25 lakh bribe to prevent the invoking of sections of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act. Aba Sawla Walkunde and Mahadev Pandhari Mane, both from Solapur district, are among the accused.

Police havaldars Anil Mahadev Shinde and Rahul Maruti Wagh were also arrested in connection with the case. The ACB filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the four under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The incident came to light when a doctor and his aides were arrested for allegedly conducting illegal prenatal sex determination tests, resulting in a threatened attack on a police officer.

A licence consultant, whose brother is accused, alleged that police havaldar Anil Shinde demanded the bribe from him to prevent the FIR from being registered. The ACB team, led by Deputy Superintendent Nita Misal, caught Walkunde and Mane while accepting the bribe on Friday.
