After playing just an hour of Total War: Warhammer 40,000, it was clear why it was the highlight of the year for me. The game exceeded my expectations, and I was blown away by its incredible capabilities. Even in the tutorial, the experience felt special and exciting. The smaller battles showcased what makes this game stand out from its predecessors.

My small army of Intercessors, despite their basic nature, proved to be powerful and versatile. They utilized a variety of weapons, making up for their lack of numbers with their arsenal diversity. The game's devastating effects were evident when the orks charged against my fortified position, leaving a stunning impact. The variety of weapons offered tactical decisions, allowing me to choose the right tools for each enemy.

Even when fighting the aeldari, long-range weapons proved effective. When reinforcements arrived, assault Intercessors swiftly eliminated the orks with their chainswords. The campaign portion provided a glimpse of creating a Space Marine chapter, the Blood Drinkers, which boasted impressive customization options. Although settlement development was limited, the campaign map's striking visuals, including rotatable 3D planets and a vast solar system, were impressive.

The game's grimy yet beautiful worlds, filled with geographical features and armies, added to its allure. The late-game battle reinforced the game's tactical prowess. The cover system proved to be a revelation, adding dynamism to the battles and forcing players to adapt on the fly. Total War 40k's kinetic battles and emphasis on defense made for an engaging and thrilling experience.
