History makers Pirates rout Sekhukhune to reach MTN8 final

Orlando Pirates secured a 3-0 victory over Sekhukhune United in the second leg of the MTN8 semi-final at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, advancing to the final of the competition. This win marked a historic moment for Pirates, as they became the first Premier Soccer League side to reach the final five consecutive times. The Buccaneers will face the winner of the other semifinal between Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows, who lead Sundowns 1-0 from their first leg encounter.

Pirates dominated ball possession throughout the match, with Toaster Nsabata being the busiest goalkeeper of the game. The Zimbabwean keeper saved a shot from Oswin Appollis in the fourth minute, parrying Ghampani Lungu's free header in the 27th minute, and again thwarting a powerful shot from Lungu in the 37th minute. Sekhukhune's best opportunity of the first half came from Lehlohonolo Mojela, who shot straight at Sipho Chaine from just outside the penalty box.

In the second half, Babina Noko's team intensified their efforts, forcing Chaine to make several saves, including a notable one on the hour mark to deny Siphesihle Mkhize from close range. Pirates added their third goal through Kamogelo Sebelebele in the referee's optional time, sealing the victory for the Buccaneers and advancing them to the final.
