Heat linked to $21M glue guy, 7-year veteran after outbidding Lakers, Knicks for Nick Richards

The Minnesota Timberwolves recently waived a veteran player, which presents an opportunity for the Heat to potentially acquire him. According to sources, the Timberwolves traded Josh Green and cash to the Utah Jazz for Cody Williams and John Konchar. The Timberwolves are expected to retain Williams, the No. 10 pick in 2024, while waiving Konchar and stretching out his guaranteed salary over multiple seasons.

This development gives the Miami Heat another potential player to pursue as they finalize their roster. NBA insider Brett Siegel believes that Miami is likely to show interest in Konchar. The Heat have an open roster spot and are $2.5 million below their first apron hard cap, making it plausible for them to still hold interest in Konchar.

This move follows closely on the heels of center Nick Richards signing with the Miami Heat, opting to join their team over the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. Richards has agreed to a one-year deal with Miami, effectively filling roster slot No. 14 with a reserve big man. Konchar would add valuable shooting depth to the Heat's roster and provide the team with another veteran player, complementing their already diverse and experienced group of talent.
