Faith Odhiambo condemns attack on Governor Orengo in Migori

Former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo has harshly criticized the attack on Siaya Governor James Orengo during a political event in Migori. In a statement on her social media platform, Odhiambo denounced the violence, warning that unchecked aggression could exacerbate security issues across the nation. The incident involved police interfering with Orengo’s meeting, followed by a mob of suspected goons torching one of his vehicles and firing shots.

Odhiambo described the disruption of a peaceful meeting by police officers as the catalyst that led to an outright attack. She emphasized that this act of violence is not only reprehensible but also serves as a harbinger of a larger security crisis if the authorities do not take decisive action. Odhiambo cautioned against leveraging political disagreements to incite organized violence, asserting that democratic rights should not be exploited as a rationale for criminal acts against individuals based on their political beliefs.

She further criticized security forces for their perceived inability to curb political intolerance, urging them to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities before it's too late. These comments come in the wake of escalating political discord in Nyanza, following recent disruptions of Lindi Mwananchi events and growing apprehensions over political unrest in the run-up to the 2027 General Election.
