Factory destroyed, owner injured as two fires strike Penang and Selangor

A sofa-fabric processing factory in Butterworth was nearly entirely destroyed in a fire that left its 58-year-old owner with first-degree burns. The fire, which broke out on Friday at 6.09pm, also damaged two motorcycles, a four-tonne lorry, and a forklift. Firefighters from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department and nearby Volunteer Fire Brigades worked together to control and extinguish the blaze, which took nearly 10 hours to fully put out.

Operations continued with overhaul work to ensure there were no further hazards before the incident was handed over to the Fire Investigation Team. A total of 26 personnel were involved in the firefighting effort. Meanwhile, a separate fire early on Saturday morning damaged two premises in Ampang Jaya, Selangor. The fire, which started at 3.46am, affected a mamak food stall and a general goods storage store, both of which were heavily burned.

Firefighters from multiple Selangor Fire and Rescue Department stations quickly responded, bringing the blaze under control by 4.42am and extinguishing it completely by 8.30am. Firefighters used six 200-foot hose lines and received assistance from other fire stations and volunteer teams. No casualties were reported in either incident.
