Eagles begin roster cuts by waiving WR Samori Toure

The Philadelphia Eagles have initiated roster reductions by waiving wide receiver Samori Toure, reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. This decision follows the team's conclusion of their preseason, a game they lost 30-13 against the Cincinnati Bengals. During the preseason finale, Toure appeared once, catching a nine-yard pass on two targets.

While he also contributed on special teams throughout the summer, he could not distinguish himself in the Eagles' crowded wide receiver market. Toure, a seventh-round pick of the Packers, joined the Eagles in June as Sean Mannion's offensive coordinator. In his first two NFL campaigns, he amassed 13 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown.

As he competes with DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and rookie Makai Lemon for roster spots, his path has been challenging. Darius Cooper's impressive performance in training camp also bolstered his claim for a starting position. Other wide receivers such as Elijah Moore, Britain Covey, Quez Watkins, and multiple others are vying for the remaining positions.

This action, while cutting one player from the competition, leaves Philadelphia with several more roster decisions to make at wide receiver. Upon becoming subject to waivers, Toure could be claimed by another team before turning into a free agent.
