'Each monster truck jump has the g-force of a car crash'

Georgina Dixon, 23, and her father Tony, both share a passion for monster trucks, a hobby that began when Georgina was born in 2003. Tony purchased his first monster truck, Swamp Thing, for Georgina that year. Now, Georgina is considered the youngest female truck driver in the country, following in her father's footsteps. She drives the legendary Swamp Thing monster truck and performs stunts such as high-flying jumps, car crushes, and power donuts at Truck Fest South West in Shepton Mallet this weekend.

The adrenaline rush from each jump is comparable to the forces experienced during a 30mph car crash, despite the extensive safety gear. Tony, inspired by monster truck television shows in the 1980s, bought his first truck for his daughter, and Georgina followed suit, earning her monster truck driving license in 2023. Monster trucks are characterized by their massive 66-inch tyres, which are about the height of Georgina and require climbing through a doorless vehicle to enter.

Driving a monster truck is challenging due to the unique two forms of steering - back steering controlled by a joystick and front steering with a steering wheel.
