‘Dalit success is attacked’: RaGa seeks Haldwani FIR

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi has called for the registration of an FIR under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against individuals who performed a 'purification' ritual in Haldwani. The incident occurred after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge visited the Ramlila Maidan, where Gandhi alleged that such acts demonstrate the BJP-RSS' unwillingness for Dalits to succeed.

Gandhi claimed that the purification ritual at Haldwani's Ramlila Maidan was a form of untouchability and a crime under the Constitution. He demanded immediate action and registration of an FIR against those responsible for the ritual.

Gandhi emphasized that the issue is not limited to Kharge and affects Dalits across the country, citing other alleged instances of purification rituals involving other Dalit leaders. He stated that these acts are carried out by BJP-RSS individuals and are in violation of the Constitution. Gandhi questioned the lack of action taken against the Haldwani incident, comparing it to potential mistreatment of a young child in a school.

He described the Haldwani incident as the "tip of the iceberg" and part of a larger ideological battle between the Constitution and the ideology of the BJP and RSS.

Citing caste-based discrimination against Dalits, Gandhi highlighted ongoing discrimination in schools, where children are forced to clean toilets and sweep floors. He also mentioned instances of discrimination in access to drinking water, such as being barred from using common wells and being given separate cups at tea stalls. Gandhi dismissed questions about the BJP's new organizational structure, emphasizing that the Congress is focused on fighting for the Constitution.
