Boxing is my life – Small Doctor

Temitope Adekunle, also known as Small Doctor, shares his journey in an interview with PETER AKINBO. Born in Kaduna and raised in Lagos, Small Doctor grew up with a passion for sports. He was brought up in Dopemu, Lagos, where he attended primary and secondary schools in Agege. Growing up was not easy for him, but his love for sports remained constant.

Boxing is Small Doctor's life, just as football is for others. He is passionate about the sport and considers Lionel Messi his GOAT in sports. When it comes to football, Small Doctor's favorite team is Barcelona. Outside of football, he admires boxer Mike Tyson and African table tennis player Quadri Aruna.

Small Doctor is inspired by his involvement in sports, as it helps him connect with his fans. He believes participating in sporting events is a way for him to stay close to his people. His love for music stems from a need to bridge the gap between himself and his audience.

In the early days of his music career, Small Doctor faced challenges as an aspiring musician from an average family. He had to work hard to make ends meet and even did some petty jobs to pay for studio sessions. One of his early supporters was Pennywise, a producer who recorded his first song almost for free.

Small Doctor's stage name, Small Doctor, came from his elder brother. Growing up, Small Doctor was a fan of the TV series 'Dr. Who,' and his brother started calling him 'Doctor Small' due to his small stature. He later changed the name to Small Doctor, which he believes fans can relate to more easily. His music is targeted at the streets, as he believes that his fans will believe and support him, just as he believes in them.
