Bhopal Municipal Corporation Goes 100% Digital, Makes E-Filing Mandatory Across All Departments

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has bid farewell to manual file handling, enforcing e-filing across all departments. This drastic shift was prompted by recent directives from the Urban Administration and Housing Development Department (UADD) to enhance transparency, curb file loss, and synchronize municipal administration with the state's digital governance endeavors.

The corporation has conducted comprehensive training sessions for officers and employees, issuing unique IDs and passwords for each staff member. After a 15-day trial period, General Administration Department (GAD) and other departments have moved exclusively to the e-filing system. However, persistent server issues have emerged as a significant roadblock.

Staff members have reported interruptions during working hours, causing delays in processing files, with some files taking up to 30 minutes to process. The e-filing system, already in use by the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the state government secretariat, is gradually being adopted by district-level offices. Varun Awasthi, BMC's additional commissioner, anticipates that initial technical and operational challenges will diminish as employees become more accustomed to the system. He estimates that it may take around 10 to 15 days for staff to fully adapt to the new system.
