Beaugrand wins again in Weihai as Potter second

Cassandre Beaugrand secured her fourth consecutive victory in the World Triathlon Championship Series, as Britain's Beth Potter secured the second position in Weihai. Olympic champion Beaugrand maintained her flawless record in this season's Championship Series by finishing the 10km run in one minute 49.20 seconds. Potter, Olympic bronze medalist, lagged behind by six seconds.

Germany's Lisa Tertsch rounded out the top three, 18 seconds behind Beaugrand. Beaugrand acknowledged the difficulty of the run, stating that she was feeling great on the swim and bike, but the run was quite hard with Potter pushing the pace. She trusted her finish and fought to keep up. Beaugrand exited the swim in third place, behind Tilly Anema of Britain and Vittoria Lopez of Brazil.

After the bike section, where a large group of cyclists merged at the front, Beaugrand, Potter, and Tertsch started to break away on foot. Tertsch began to falter, allowing Potter to follow. In the final lap, Potter could not keep pace with Beaugrand's pace. Switzerland's Max Studer claimed the men's race, finishing in 1:41:08, with Spain's David Cantero del Campo 10 seconds behind, and Canada's Tyler Mislawchuk in third, seven seconds behind.

A final regular-season event is scheduled in the Czech Republic on September 13, followed by the Grand Final in Spain on September 23.
