Ahead of Opposition Summit, Duke Harps on Unity, Says Tinubu Not an Average Politician

Ahead of Monday’s opposition summit convened by the G100, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, emphasized the need for unity among opposition parties to effectively challenge incumbent President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, warned that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) enjoys a significant advantage due to the incumbent status, which could make it difficult for divided opposition parties to defeat Tinubu.

He cautioned against underestimating Tinubu’s political experience and strength, stating that a powerful incumbent could easily overwhelm a fragmented opposition. Duke stressed that the only way the opposition could seriously challenge the ruling party is by forming a broad and credible coalition. However, the Labour Party, which is already in a coalition with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), declined to attend the G100 meeting, insisting that it does not see the need for another coalition arrangement.
