Afridi demands implementation of court’s orders on IK’s treatment

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi has emphasized that the Supreme Court has issued orders concerning former Prime Minister Imran Khan's treatment. Addressing the Provincial Cabinet, Afridi expressed disappointment that the federal government had not complied with the court's directive. He noted that Khan's health had worsened while in custody, stating that disregarding judicial orders is an act of disrespect toward the judiciary.

Afridi emphasized that the entire nation is relying on the courts, adding that if the courts cannot ensure the implementation of their own orders, it calls into question the effectiveness of the judicial process. However, he announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would be launching an electric-bike scheme for women, with female students and working women receiving electric bikes.

The first phase of the scheme is set to be launched soon, with allocations made based on merit. Afridi also announced that the province would soon introduce an electric-rickshaw scheme, contributing to a cleaner and greener environment. The Chief Minister mentioned that orders had been issued to expedite the electric-bus scheme for divisional headquarters.

Meanwhile, Minister for Information, Science & Technology, Shafi Jan, informed the media that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet, in its 57th meeting, had approved various decisions across multiple sectors. The Cabinet approved the establishment of a new Tehsil in Charsadda district, named "Umarzai," and constituted a committee to formulate criteria for future administrative unit changes.

The Cabinet decided to conduct the Medical & Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) through the Educational Testing & Evaluation Agency (ETEA) starting from 2027. Additionally, the Cabinet approved a transport monetization policy for Judicial Officers, approved nominations of two educationist members to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Private Schools Regulatory Authority, and allocated additional funds for 54 buses for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit system, as well as funding for three sporting disciplines for the 14th South Asian Games in Peshawar.
