5 potential roster cuts Cowboys should consider trading for

The Dallas Cowboys have a considerable amount of roster movement to consider as they attempt to conform to the league’s mandated 53-man limit. Here are five players the team could pursue via trade to strengthen their roster.

Firstly, the Cowboys may look to upgrade their offensive tackles position. With Nate Thomas struggling and few options behind him, Blake Fisher from the Houston Texans could be a valuable acquisition. Fisher, a 2024 second-round pick, has been competing for the swing tackle job and would bring affordable price tag and experience to the Cowboys.

Secondly, the Cowboys could also consider trading for Sedrick Van Pran-Granger from the Buffalo Bills. Van Pran-Granger, a 2024 fifth-round pick, has struggled to secure the backup center job in Buffalo, potentially making him available for trade. The Cowboys' current backup guard/center options have been less than ideal, and Van Pran-Granger could fit well in Klayton Adams' zone/gap blocking scheme.

Thirdly, the Cowboys may attempt to upgrade their defensive tackle position by acquiring DeWayne Carter from the Buffalo Bills. Carter, a 2024 third-round pick, missed his entire rookie year due to injury and now faces an uncertain role under Jim Leonhard's defensive scheme. However, his youth and potential make him an intriguing trade target.

Fourthly, linebacking corps could also benefit from a trade. If DeMarvion Overshown stays healthy, he could be a strong upgrade from what the Cowboys deployed last season. But, to further bolster the LB position, the Cowboys might consider acquiring a starting-caliber option. Junior Colston, a 2024 third-round pick from the Los Angeles Chargers, could be a potential trade target. Colston, however, is currently buried on the Chargers depth chart.

Lastly, the Cowboys have shown interest in Kaleb Johnson, a 2024 third-round pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers. If Javonte Williams stays healthy, the Cowboys are in good shape at running back. However, Williams' absence could leave the team without a ready RB1. Johnson, like Colston, is another young and affordable option who could provide a solid floor with a potential high ceiling.
