£4.3m Shot-Stopper Flies To England For Medical With Leeds United: Good Signing For The Whites?

Michael Zetterer, the 31-year-old €5m (£4.3m) shot-stopper, has travelled to England for direct negotiations with Leeds United. The two clubs have already agreed on a structural transfer fee, but the finalisation of personal terms remains uncertain as the transfer window nears its conclusion.

Frankfurt's loan signing of Noah Atubolu from Freiburg pushed Zetterer out of the door, opening a pathway to Yorkshire. Leeds United, who have lost Ilan Meslier, Karl Darlow, and Lucas Perri, now face a significant goalkeeping gap. Zetterer, despite his age, brings genuine top-flight experience, having made 22 Bundesliga appearances in the 2025/26 season, clocking nearly 2,000 minutes and producing 63 saves while keeping six clean sheets.

His passing game is sharp, with an 88% completion rate on short-to-medium distribution across 578 successful passes last season. However, the deal hinges on Zetterer accepting a deputy role behind James Trafford at Elland Road. Zetterer’s save percentage of 65.26% isn't particularly impressive, and he does carry vulnerabilities that better attackers can exploit. Nevertheless, Leeds United are closing the window by replacing their entire goalkeeping department with the aim of bolstering their squad.
