2027: Play football on election day, complain later – Umahi warn voters

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has urged people in the South-East region to fulfill their civic duty on election day. In a video shared on social media, Umahi cautioned voters against playing football during voting hours, warning that they might later complain if bad leaders are elected.

He pleaded: "Let it not be during voting you are playing football. Then tomorrow you start to come and complain. It is not acceptable." Umahi further encouraged the South-East to support President Bola Tinubu, asserting that he would likely secure re-election despite facing criticism and insults from some Nigerians. He emphasized that before, no more than five percent of the federal budget had been allocated to the South-East, and now, they are witnessing improved infrastructure.

Umahi highlighted that while roads were being repaired, some voters seemed to take these improvements for granted, questioning why the people responsible for these improvements hadn't done their jobs. He concluded by stating that insults directed towards the president or government officials do not prevent them from winning the election.
