Young Malaysians urged to embrace change, equip themselves for future

Sibu, Aug 28: To thrive in the rapidly changing world, young Malaysians must focus on obtaining good education, acquiring pertinent skills, maintaining strong moral values, and cultivating the confidence to adapt to technological and economic shifts, asserted Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh during a National Day program.

Councillor Sean Wong, Wong's representative, echoed this sentiment in his speech at Dewan Lakis. He emphasized that Malaysia's future lies in its young generation, who should be prepared to contribute towards a peaceful, progressive, and united nation. Wong stressed that National Day should signify more than just national pride, but serve as a reminder of the responsibilities inherent in independence.

"Independence grants us freedom, yet freedom without responsibility will not take us far," he cautioned. Wong also highlighted the significance of unity, asserting that Malaysia's diversity in race, religion, language, and culture should be viewed as a strength. He cited Sarawak as a prime example of communities from varied backgrounds coexisting with mutual respect and cooperation, despite their cultural and religious differences.

"We may differ in terms of culture and religion, but we share one homeland, one future, and one dream – to see Malaysia continue to be peaceful and prosperous," Wong emphasized. He expressed hope for more initiatives that would facilitate interaction and collaboration among young people from diverse backgrounds, fostering friendships and mutual understanding.
