Yatsenyuk: historical issues between Poland, Ukraine should be resolved through special legal mechanism

Ukraine and Poland's freedom is mutually reliant, with respect forming the bedrock of their relationship, according to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Kyiv Security Forum Head and former Ukrainian Prime Minister. Yatsenyuk emphasized that Poland thrives due to Ukraine's freedom, and vice versa. He reiterated this point during a virtual address at the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce conference, stating that Ukraine shall triumph if Poland remains steadfast, as it has since the onset of Russian aggression.

Yatsenyuk underscored the necessity of an open dialogue between the two nations to address historical disputes and disapproved of politicians' refusal to exchange awards. The KSF chief proposed the establishment of a special legal mechanism between Ukraine and Poland as the primary method to resolve such matters, asserting that political maneuvers lack a viable solution.

Instead, Yatsenyuk advocated for the formation of an interstate agreement to institute a specialized judicial process for investigating crimes against Poles and Ukrainians, stressing the importance of seeking justice. He also highlighted the economic potential of enhanced cooperation between the two countries, noting that joint exports between Ukraine and Poland total $90 billion, and that united efforts could double their combined export capacity.

Furthermore, Yatsenyuk pointed out that strengthening ties between Poland and Ukraine in the military-industrial sector would yield substantial economic benefits for both nations.
