VIDEO: Umahi orders arrest of contractor over Benin-Onitsha road delays

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has ordered the arrest of Hartland Construction Company's Managing Director over delays on the Benin-Onitsha Expressway. During a recent inspection, Umahi expressed frustration over the contractor's incomplete work, stating that Hartland had only completed about 40% of the agreed 11 kilometres of roadwork.

The Federal Government had paid Hartland to complete the section, but the contractor failed to meet the agreed scope. Umahi directed the recovery of funds and the review of all payment certificates issued to the firm. He also emphasized the need for immediate corrective actions, including deploying stone bases to fill critical sections, easing traffic flow, and addressing illegal dredging along road corridors.
