[UPDATED] Those detained for investigations must not be presumed guilty: Asyraf

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has stated that individuals detained for investigations must not be treated as guilty before their trial and conviction in court. He emphasized that any attempts to humiliate or insult someone, including creating the perception that a detained individual is already guilty, violate principles of justice, presumption of innocence, and the rule of law.

Asyraf clarified that Umno will not support or defend any wrongdoing, abuse, or misconduct, including those committed by its members and leaders, insisting they must face justice through the legal process. The rule of law should always be respected and upheld.
