UK warns expulsion from Gaza coordination centre would ‘undermine’ peace efforts

The United Kingdom has cautioned that the removal of its representatives from the US-led coordination centre responsible for postwar efforts in Gaza could jeopardize international efforts to enhance conditions in the territory. A spokesperson for the UK government expressed the nation's ongoing commitment to executing the 20-Point Plan for Gaza and contributing to initiatives aimed at improving the situation on the ground.

"The UK remains committed to the implementation of the 20-Point Plan in Gaza and playing our part in improving the situation on the ground," the spokesperson affirmed in a statement. The UK has also affirmed that, upon request from the United States and the Board of Peace, it would persist in collaborating at the International Gaza Support Centre (IGSC) with the US, Israel, allied nations, and United Nations agencies in support of UN Security Council Resolution 2803, which sanctioned the American plan for Gaza. "Removing the UK or other partners would undermine these shared endeavors," the spokesperson added.

This warning comes in the wake of reports suggesting that Israel is contemplating expelling British officials from the coordination centre, amidst escalating tensions between London and Jerusalem over Israel's proposed expansion of settlements in the E1 area of the West Bank. The Financial Times initially broke the story, and a source familiar with the situation later confirmed it to The Times of Israel. The same source indicated that Israel was also considering "other measures" against the UK.
