Two residents rescued alive from collapsed building in Abuja

On Friday, two residents were pulled to safety from the debris of a collapsed one-story building in Kubwa area, Abuja's Federal Capital Territory, FCT. The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department, FEMD, confirmed this through a statement by Head of Media and Public Relations Nkechi Isa. The victims, found on the ground floor, are presently receiving care at Kubwa General Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

Initially trapped by the right segment of the structure's collapse, the affected building consists of six blocks of flats. At the time of the incident, other occupants had vacated the premises. Isa explained that the FEMD responded rapidly to the distress call and successfully extracted the trapped victims. While the rescue was successful, resulting in no fatalities, the collapse caused substantial loss of personal belongings and household items.

In addition to FEMD, the Department of Development Control and the FCT Police Command also arrived on the scene to secure the area and commence investigations into the structural failure.
